Rita Ora Abandons Single Release Plan After Twitter Challenge Majorly Fails

Oct 31, 2014

Fifty shades of embarrassing! Singer and Fifty Shades of Grey actress Rita Ora found herself in a bit of a shameful situation on Friday, Oct. 31, when her promotional plan backfired in a big way.

Ora, 23, tweeted out to her 3.94 million followers on Halloween, posing a challenge to her fans with new music as an incentive.

"Dropping my new song monday if this get 100,000 retweets," she wrote.

Unfortunately for the "R.I.P." singer, the Twitter engagement did not go according to plan. Her tweet reportedly hit just under 2,000 retweets and was deleted by Ora after it clearly was not going to reach her ambitious target number.

Soon after, the DKNY model reportedly retweeted a supportive message from a fan reading, "where her 3.9m followers at when you need them smh," though she later undid the action as well to leave no trace of her failure.

Though she has topped charts in her native England, Ora has yet to see the same level of success stateside. Her highest-performing single, 2012's "How We Do (Party)," peaked at No. 62 on the Billboard Hot 100. Earlier this year, the ex-girlfriend of Rob Kardashian dropped her "I Will Never Let You Down," which only reached No. 77 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Ora has seen similar roadblocks with her plans to release her sophomore studio album after the 2012 debut of Ora. The performer told Capital FM this past February that the album is "actually done, finally," before recanting and telling Complex this past May that she was planning to finish the project "in about a month's time," but June came and went without any news.
