Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 7, Episode 8 Recap: Kenya Moore Makes Peace With Porsha Williams After Reunion Brawl

Dec 30, 2014

Happily ever after? NeNe Leakes (of all people!) is on a peacemaking mission on the Dec. 28 episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. NeNe, Cynthia Bailey, Kenya Moore, and Porsha Williams try their best to set their differences aside — but the tough-as-nails Old Lady Gang won’t apologize for a thing. So much for sorry!

1) Phaedra Prepares for Life Alone

On the heels of husband Apollo Nida’s odd nightclub confrontation, Phaedra Parks comes to terms with the fact that she may be living life as a single mother from here on out. She joins her mom, Pastor Regina, for lunch where they talk about Apollo’s absence at home. She wants Apollo to step up and spend as much time as possible with their two boys, but he’s too busy enjoying his last moments of freedom before beginning his eight-year prison sentence.

“It’s easy to say you love someone…love is a verb, not a noun,” Phaedra tells her mom.

Phaedra mentions that Apollo is still trying to blame her for his wrongdoing and failures — even though she’s given him plenty of opportunities (umm, hello funeral service business?) to be successful. “I’ll probably actually be less stressed when Apollo leaves,” Phaedra admits.

2) Old Lady Gang’s Old Lady Beef

A mother’s love, a daughter’s burden! Kandi Burruss finally closes on the home that she purchased for Mama Joyce, and the two celebrate over lunch with Aunt Bertha and Aunt Nora. Mama Joyce is thrilled about her new digs, but makes it clear that Kandi won’t be able to overstay her welcome.

“She’s not giving me a key to her house because she doesn’t have a key to mine,” Kandi tells her aunts.

Luckily, Kandi won’t be in Atlanta for too long anyway — her musical, A Mother’s Love, is hitting the road…and she wants three special guests to hit the stage with her. Kandi (unsuccessfully!) tries to convince her mom and aunts to make onstage cameos during her upcoming 26-city tour — fitting, because the show has characters inspired by the OLG themselves!

One stop they’ll probably skip? The Bronx, where Todd Tucker’s mom, Miss Sharon, is still pretty upset about Mama Joyce’s negative words about her. Kandi mentions that Miss Sharon wants an apology for the prostitute dig — and doesn’t mind coming down to Georgia to get it, one way or another.

“Bring it on,” Aunt Bertha challenges.

3) Kandi Factory Meltdown

Later that week, Kandi admits that she's stressed about the lackluster ticket sales of A Mother’s Love to Todd. They haven’t even sold half of the seats. She introduces the idea of the OLG joining them on the road — and he’s not too thrilled about the prospect of being around Mama Joyce 24/7.

There’s still tension between Todd and Mama Joyce, made even worse by her new war with Miss Sharon. Todd, naturally, sides with Miss Sharon and thinks that Mama Joyce owes her an apology. Kandi insists that she can’t make Mama Joyce say sorry. Todd defeatedly admits that the two moms will probably never see eye to eye. “

My mom is going to be what she’s going to be. Your mom is going to be what she’s going to be,” Todd says.

He tells Kandi that if Mama Joyce will be around for Thanksgiving, he won’t be…he’d rather spend the day with his own mother. Kandi proposes that they split holidays so that she and Todd won’t have to separate.

“Am I really going to want to be there with your mother? Not really,” Todd admits. Can anyone blame him?

4) A Family Reunion

Claudia Jordan takes her visiting mom Teresa and grandmother Lillian — to a drag queen restaurant of all places! — where her family dishes out more than she can take. The very single Claudia admits that she hasn’t had much time to date as she settles into her new life in Atlanta. Lillian advises Claudia to take her time while searching for the one, but Teresa thinks that the clock is a tickin’…and that she’s ready for a little Claudia or Claudio.

All that family talk opens up old wounds on Claudia’s end — she mentions that Teresa has never said “I love you” to her before, something that still obviously hurts. Claudia, who’s like her father, thinks that Teresa still sees a lot of him in her which is why showing emotion is difficult.

“I show my love by doing things for you guys…it’s the action that matters,” Teresa tells Claudia.

Claudia doesn’t let that get in the way of enjoying her two favorite ladies. She proposes a toast to Atlanta and finding a “baby daddy-slash-husband” soon.

“Be careful, ‘cause I heard these Atlanta men are slick!” Lillian warns.

5) Apologies All Around

In an effort to mend broken alliances, NeNe invites Cynthia, Kenya, and Porsha out for drinks — and a round of apologies. NeNe and Cynthia address their problems first — with unwelcome help from Kenya, who deems herself moderator of the night.

“Kenya’s butting in. Kenya doesn’t know Cynthia…and now she wants to act like she knows her so well,” NeNe gripes in her confessional.

NeNe addresses Cynthia’s tendency to talk behind her back and says that her actions were only a reaction to Cynthia’s.

“Don’t you ever punch somebody and think that you won’t get punched back,” NeNe warns Cynthia.

Though they still don’t see eye to eye, Cynthia and NeNe agree that the love is still there. NeNe still loves Cynthia like a sister, and Cynthia’s committed to getting their relationship back on track. NeNe…not so much. She agrees to go to lunch with Cynthia — “in a couple of years!”

“I think it’s a bunch of bulls--t,” NeNe says of Cynthia’s apology in her confessional. “I know you. I know who you are…don’t try to play me girl. Peter has taught you well.”

Cynthia is still upset from her late lunch with Porsha — literally. She tells Porsha that she’s owed an overdue apology, and though Porsha gives her one, they still continue to argue. Kenya doesn’t let the two duke it out and begs for Cynthia’s attention at the end of the table.

“We’re having a conversation…I think you should be quiet. You’re rude! As a motherf----r!” Porsha screams at Kenya.

Cynthia and Porsha agree to squash their beef. Saving the biggest beef for last, Porsha and Kenya then address theirs — their huge season 6 reunion brawl where Porsha attacked Kenya after Kenya provoked her with props.

“In order for me to move on with my life, I’ve got to forgive — and I have,” Kenya tells Porsha.

“I’m sorry, was I asking for forgiveness?” Porsha questions.

The girls ask Porsha if she’s sorry for what happened. While Porsha admits that she acknowledges her actions, she doesn’t flat-out apologize. Kenya then gets up and asks Porsha for a hug to show her that she’s being sincere and wants to move on. Porsha agrees to let go if Kenya accepts responsibility for her part in the fight. The two give each other the world’s most insincere squeeze.

“It’s much more powerful to take the initiative to forgive,” Kenya says in her confessional. “And if anyone still wants to hate on me — haters gonna hate!”

Katie Holmes: "I Don't Know If I Have Moved Past" Dawson's Creek

Once a girl from the Creek, always a girl from the Creek. It's been more than 10 years since Katie Holmes, James Van Der Beek, Michelle Williams, and Joshua Jackson said their goodbyes on the finale of the WB series Dawson's Creek, but Holmes, for one, still carries a little bit of Joey Potter wherever she goes.

"I don't know if I have moved past it, but I don't really care," the Kennedys actress told Elle Canada of her role on the teen drama. "I had a ball doing it, and it's really nice to be a part of something that did affect people."

It affected her, too, of course. Noting that the show "created a lot of opportunities" for all of its stars, she said, "You can't really ask for much more than that."

Indeed, opportunities like Dawson's Creek don't come along all that often. "It's a very hard business," the 36-year-old single mother (to daughter Suri, her only child with ex-husband Tom Cruise) told Elle. "You have to work hard every day and hope for the best. Sometimes offers are flying in, and sometimes they're not."

In part because of that, Holmes is preparing for her directorial debut, a film adaptation of Annie Weatherwax's book All We Had. "There aren't as many movies being made, period, so the challenge is to create projects for yourself," she explained.

That said, the Olay spokesperson doesn't consider herself particularly ambitious. "I think ambition is a wonderful thing, but I see a lot of people who might be a little more ambitious [than me]; I just do what I do and go home," she said. "I have a balanced life. I like having different experiences, and I like being inspired."

Neil Patrick Harris' First Oscar Promo Is Full of Holiday Cheer: Watch

The gift that keeps on giving! Neil Patrick Harris gave fans a special Christmas present when he released his first promo for the Oscars on Thursday, Dec. 25.

The Emmy-winning actor, 41, stars in the ad for the upcoming 87th Annual Academy Awards. The 15-second clip opens with Harris in front of a makeshift Oscar statue Christmas tree, which is surrounded by piles of wrapped presents.

PHOTOS: Oscar Hosts' Best and Worst Moments Ever

Sporting a well-cut tuxedo with a bow tie, a red scarf, and brunette locks from his Hedwig and the Angry Inch days, the star begins, "This holiday season, give your family a gift they'll never forget."

"Instead of traditional presents, give them the gift of simply telling them to watch me host the Oscars," he jokes, shrugging as he smiles.

Harris will host the awards show for the first time when the star-studded affair takes place at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre on Feb. 22, 2015. He follows 2014's Ellen DeGeneres, controversial 2013 host Seth MacFarlane, 2012 star Billy Crystal, and the unforgettable duo of James Franco and Anne Hathaway, who hosted the 2011 Oscars.

"I've been in the hosting world for a little while and the Oscars has been that show that I was terrified to take on, but had never been asked to do," Harris said in an interview with radio station Z100 this past October. "Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, the producers of the show, they just reach out to someone. Thankfully, I think with the help of Gone Girl and A Million Ways to Die in the West, I had a couple more feature film credits than I did before and that definitely helps with the Academy and their decision making."

"It’s weirdly one of those things that you don't know when it's happening and you don't reach out for it and present yourself," added Harris, who has previously hosted the Emmy and Tony awards. "You just sometimes get a call."

Robert Downey Jr., Steve Carell, Michael Keaton Reveal Advice They'd Give to Their Younger Selves

You can't learn from your mistakes if you don't make any. Robert Downey Jr., Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne, Steve Carell, and Michael Keaton are doing pretty well for themselves these days, but they have imperfect pasts just like everyone else.

During a recent chat for the Los Angeles Times and EPIX's five-part Hollywood Sessions, the actors were asked what advice they'd give their younger selves now that they're older, wiser, and more experienced.

"I wouldn't. I would just say, 'Nailed it,'" The Judge star Downey Jr., 44, quipped of his well-documented history, which includes struggles with addiction and multiple run-ins with the law.

Sherlock actor Cumberbatch, 38, who had a Golden Globe-nominated role in The Imitation Game, joked, "I would get Matthew McConaughey to do it for me."

Carell, who appeared in the acclaimed drama Foxcatcher, offered a more earnest answer, with saying he'd tell his younger self, "Don't be so afraid of girls." (The Office alum, 52, has been married since 1995 to wife Nancy.)

Birdman star Keaton, meanwhile, referred to a quote from Reese Witherspoon's new movie Wild in his answer. Watch the video above to find out what he said, and tune in to the "Lead Actor" edition of Hollywood Sessions on Monday, Dec. 29, at 8 p.m. on EPIX.

City Link collapse leaves entire family jobless and on the dole queue for New Year

Dec 29, 2014

Mick Ward and his two children Laura, 25, and Ryan, 22, set to face New Year standing in dole queue

David Johnstone / BPM

An entire family have been left jobless by the collapse of delivery firm City Link.

Administrators for the company - owned by Tory fatcat Jon Moulton - unveiled plans on Christmas Day to sack thousands of staff.

Mick Ward, a driver for the parcel delivery firm, has told how he and his two children are now likely to start the new year standing in the dole queue.

His daughter Laura, 25, is a call centre manager and 22-year-old son Ryan works in a warehouse at the same Motherwell depot where Mick is based.

The trio are expecting to find themselves jobless today after a meeting with administrators.

Ryan lives at home with his dad and mum Lynn. Laura recently moved in with her partner.

Devastated: Mick's daughter Laura has also been sacked from her job as a call centre manager

Mick, 47, said: “I got my kids in here. It’s devastating the three of us are going to lose our jobs on the same day.

“The way staff have been treated is disgusting. People like Moulton sitting in their mansions couldn’t care less about ordinary workers.

“They invest in businesses, and if they don’t work out, then they simply move on to their next venture.”

Multi-millionaire Moulton donated almost £500,000 to the Tories between 2004 and 2011.

His investment firm Better Capital bought City Link for just £1 in April last year and he claimed he could turn the struggling firm around.

But workers found out on Christmas Day – via the BBC news website – that they were going to lose their jobs.

Moulton caused further outrage yesterday by claiming the RMT union were responsible for the timing of the news.

Fatcat: Millionaire John Moulton sacked thousands of staff on Christmas Day

The businessman claimed he wanted to tell workers on Boxing Day.

But Mick, who has worked for the firm for 18 years, said: “If Moulton had known the firm was in such trouble, we should have been told long before now. Boxing Day wouldn’t have been any better.”

Mick is also an official with the RMT who have arranged a meeting at the Motherwell depot today.

Drivers from across Scotland are attending, along with the firm’s administrators Ernst and Young.

But Mick said workers are expecting only to receive redundancy forms.

Around 500 jobs are expected to be lost across Scotland, with workers at depots in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Motherwell and Livingston affected. Across the UK, a total of around 3700 posts could be axed.

Mick also revealed rumours had been circulating among drivers since November that the firm were going bust.

However, on Christmas Eve, hours before the news was broken, bosses were telling him and other workers their jobs were safe. Kirkcaldy sub-contractor Paul Horner, who is also set to lose his job, said he couldn’t tell his family after he found out on Christmas Day.

He added: “I was just numb. To find out like this is really shocking.”

Mick said: “Everyone understands businesses can fail but the way this has been handled is disgraceful.

“We want these guys held to account.

“We need answers and we need the full truth.”

Mr Fernandes, the chairman of Premier League football club QPR, was speaking after the man leading the search for Flight QZ8501 said it was likely to be 'at the bottom of the sea'.

Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency chief, Bambang Soelistyo, said this morning: "Based on the coordinates given to us and evaluation that the estimated crash position is in the sea, the hypothesis is the plane is at the bottom of the sea.

"That's the preliminary suspicion and it can develop based on the evaluation of the result of our search."

The vice-president of Indonesia earlier said there was a "huge possibility" that missing Flight QZ8501 had been in an accident.

Jusuf Kalla said: "It has been 10 hours, there is a huge possibility there has been an accident.

Revenge porn pal BOASTS about her conviction for uploading a sex tape of her former friend

Danika France, 18, walked into a bedroom and recorded her pal Leah Trevena, 19, in a passionate clinch with a man and uploaded it to Facebook

A young woman boasted about her conviction for uploading a video of a friend having sex onto Facebook.

Danika France, 18, walked into a bedroom and recorded her pal Leah Trevena, 19, in a passionate clinch with a man after a night out.

But a month later the pair fell out, and the teenager uploaded the private footage onto Facebook where it could be viewed by the public.

Devastated Leah said she felt "suicidal" after the video appeared.

France pleaded guilty and was branded "stupid" by magistrates, but appeared unrepentant in the hours after her conviction.

After discovering her crime was set to feature in a local newspaper, the teen crowed to friends online: “I’m famous, ha ha!

    “Front page tomorrow, ha!”

    Danica France
    Boast: Danika France

Macclesfield Magistrates Court heard how Miss Travena felt "hurt and humiliated".

The friends had been on a night out in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs, on October 23 when the victim met a man who she took home and had sex with.

France came upstairs with a camera and recorded them in bed, laughing in the process as Miss Travena was heard protesting.

The teen, who works as a carer looking after people with mental health problems and dementia, touted the footage round to her friends, asking: “I’ve got the video if anyone else wants it.”

Miss Trevena said: “I want her to realise what she’s done. She doesn’t know how much it’s affected me. I have been suicidal. I feel really vulnerable.

“She put something online that should never have happened, I didn’t let her take a video of me, it should be private.

    Danica France
    Revenge: Danika France

“I don’t go out in town anymore, I’ve not been out since. I feel embarrassed and don’t trust anyone anymore. It’s really affected my confidence.

“I’m glad the police took me seriously and she has been in court now, so I have some closure.

“I want people to know that posting things like this online is a very serious issue and people can go to the police.

“It’s so easy to upload and people think there are no real consequences, but there are.”

France is on conditional bail and will be sentenced next month.

Chairman of the bench James Donohue said: “This offence is very serious and exceedingly stupid - and that’s an understatement.”

France, from Macclesfield, Cheshire, admitted sending footage to Facebook of non-explicit sexual activity for the purpose of causing distress under the Malicious Communications Act.

John Gallagher, defending, said: “This has all the hallmarks of why I hate social media. It’s difficult to envisage how much damage this can cause.

“The problem with putting something on the internet is it’s very difficult to purge it.”

Charles Bronson mourning death of 'criminal soul mate' after fellow lag died in jail

Mark Lilliot, who Bronson praised in his autobiography, collapsed in his cell last Tuesday morning and was pronounced dead a short time later

    Photo News Service

Britain's most dangerous prisoner Charles Bronson is mourning the death of his criminal soul mate - a fellow lag who died in jail two days before Christmas.

Mark Lilliot collapsed in his cell last Tuesday morning and was pronounced dead a short time later at HMP Liverpool in Merseyside.

The 54-year-old became a close confidant of Bronson after they struck up a friendship in the 1980s at Risley prison in Warrington, Cheshire.

Bronson, 62, was told his friend had died last weekend, which left him ‘upset and gloomy,’ sources said.

The former cage-knuckle boxer described Lilliot, from Birkenhead, Merseyside, as his ‘special pal’ in his self-titled autobiography.

Bronson wrote: “I am a great believer in fate. Certain people are meant to come into your life. This guy was meant to come into mine, I was sure of it.

“I could feel a closeness towards him. I started to go to the same gym class as him.

"I’ve spent very little time in prison gyms, owing to my years of punishment in solitary, but I can go into a gym and bench-press more than anyone can work up to.

“I noticed that this guy had no fingers at all on one hand, and only half fingers on the other. This guy had suffered terribly, whoever he was.

“He wasn’t like the others. They were loud, boisterous, all trying to be something they weren’t. This guy knew how to conduct himself.

“One day in the recess I spilt water on him. He was cool. He said: ‘Easy, pal.’

“Many wouldn’t have dared say a word but he said it with confidence. I’ve chinned a guy for less - but he was special, a man I respected. That was our first real encounter.

“Soon after, we were like brothers. I learn all about him. He’d actually got burnt as a kid. His name was Mark Lilliot.

“He has proved his loyalty to me every since. He’s a man that I love and respect.”

Bronson, who changed his surname to Salvador in tribute to the painter Dali, was known as a ‘loose cannon’ when younger in prison for his violent outbursts.

He has been moved more than 150 times between prisons and sections.

Bronson is serving life for robbery and kidnap and has spent 40 years in behind bars with 36 years of that in solitary confinement.

After being jailed for seven years in 1974 for robbery Bronson made a name for himself by fighting prison guards, taking other inmates prisoner and starting one man riots.

He is currently in Full Sutton prison near York.

Lilliot was serving a two-year term for making threats to kill.

Melted to the ground: Twisted metal frames are all that are left after bus depot blaze

The fire destroyed 30 coaches, five minibuses and a car and triggered a series of explosions

Melted to the ground, these twisted metal frames are all that are left of 30 coaches after a bus depot blaze.

The fire destroyed 30 coaches, five minibuses and a car and triggered a series of explosions.

It took more than 30 firefighters several hours to bring the massive blaze under control in the early hours of Sunday.

Fire investigators will today begin studying CCTV footage to discover if the fire at First Call Coaches in Pant Industrial Estate, Merthyr Tydfil, was deliberately started.

MLA Photography Merthyr Tydfil bus depot
Merthyr Tydfil bus depot fire aftermath

Describing the scene, Dewi Jones from South Wales Fire Service told BBC Wales: “There’s total devastation here, but in order for me to try and pinpoint where this started I need CCTV, something of that nature.

“The fire has caught hold and spread from one vehicle to the other and from a fire investigation point of view it’s important that I capture as much evidence as possible, and in particular having a look at the CCTV that is available in the surrounding area to try and establish where the fire initially took hold.”

He said there were a number of cameras on buildings in the surrounding area as well as on the first fire engines to arrive.

New controversial Princess Diana play asks 'Is James Hewitt Prince Harry's real father?'

The makers of Truth, Lies and Diana say it uncovers secrets about her life and death that the establishment have tried to keep hidden

A controversial new play is set to add fuel to the theory that Prince Charles is NOT Prince Harry's real father.

Truth, Lies and Diana says it uncovers secrets about Diana and her death, that the establishment have tried to keep hidden.

Among them is the suggestion that former army officer James Hewitt, and not Charles, is Harry's biological father - a claim with both of her former lovers flatly deny.

The makers of the play, written by Jon Conway, say they have spoken to a number of people close to Diana in a bid to shed light on her shock death in 1997.

One of those is Mr Hewitt, who had a well documented affair with the Princess in the 1980s, and who has allowed himself to be portrayed in the production, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The script, about a journalist investigating Diana's death, contains more than one reference to the question of who is Harry's father.

It was a rumour that rocked the Royal family to its core.

In one scene, Hewitt tells a journalist: "Diana and I started our relationship more than a year before Harry was born. Now that doesn’t prove that I am his father. It’s just the... inconvenient truth."

Rumours about Harry's paternity began to surface in the mid 1990s when details of Diana and Hewitt's affair became public.

But James Hewitt has previously denied he is Harry’s dad.

In 2002 he told the Sunday Mirror: “There really is no possibility whatsoever that I am Harry’s father.

“I can absolutely assure you that I am not.”

He added: “Admittedly the red hair is similar to mine and people say we look alike.

“I have never encouraged these comparisons and although I was with Diana for a long time I must state once and for all that I’m not Harry’s father.

“When I met Diana, he was already a toddler.”

Diana’s former police bodyguard Ken Wharfe, also denied the rumours, writing: “The malicious rumours that still persist about the paternity of Prince Harry used to anger Diana greatly.

“The nonsense should be scotched here and now.

“Harry was born on 15 September, 1984.

“Diana did not meet James until the summer of 1986, and the red hair, gossips so love to cite as proof is, of course, a Spencer trait.”

It is understood Prince Charles also reassured the young Harry that he was his biological father before he started school at Eaton in 1998.

He has always insisted the relationship did not begin until 1986 when Harry was two years old.

However it has since been claimed, by publicist Max Clifford amongst others, that it in fact began BEFORE Harry's birth in September 1984.

The character of Hewitt in the play continues the denials that Harry is his son, however there are numerous mentions of the rumours.

Mr Conway says the script is the result of "meticulous forensic research" including "revelations from previously silent sources."

He said: "There is a startling revelation that James Hewitt makes and he has allowed me to make it in the play.

"This is the fact that his relationship with Diana started 18 months before Prince Harry was born.

"We are not saying he is Prince Harry’s father although the audience may take their own view on that."

Hewitt, 56, has said he knows Mr Conway but has refused to be drawn on the play's contents saying: "I am sure it is accurate."

The play opens at the Charing Cross Theatre in Central London on January 9.

Prince Harry 'relaxed' over smears in new play ex-Army officer James Hewitt is his real dad

The claims emerge in a new production about Harry's mum Princess Diana called Truth, Lies, Diana

Prince Harry will be laughing off the latest effort to reignite rumours that ex-Army officer James Hewitt is his real dad.

The claims emerge in a new play about Harry's mum Princess Diana called Truth, Lies, Diana.

Writer Jon Conway claims to have won approval from Hewitt, 56, who has described the scenes about his life with the tragic royal as "accurate".

The former Household Cavalry officer's backing is an apparent U-turn as he has previously denied claims Prince Charles is not Harry's father.

Mr Conway says his production aims to shed new light on the truth about Diana, killed in a car crash in 1997, and expose secrets the establishment has kept hidden.

      Truth, Lies, Diana

The Royal household has never officially commented on the paternity claims but Harry was reassured long ago the conspiracy theories about his parentage are false.

The 30-year-old prince, born in September 1984, is so relaxed about the speculation that he has even appeared to joke about it.

During a visit to Bacon's College in South East London with William and Kate in July 2012, a young boy shouted across the football field to Wills: "Are you two brothers?" Quick-witted Harry instantly replied: "We're not sure."

Mr Conway, who wrote the 2010 musical All The Fun Of The Fair which starred David Essex, claimed his new work is the result of "meticulous forensic research" including "revelations from previously silent sources".

He said: "There is a startling revelation that James Hewitt makes and he has allowed me to make it in the play.

"This is the fact that his relationship with Diana started 18 months before Prince Harry was born.

"We're not saying he is Prince Harry's father although the audience may take their own view on that."

Hewitt confirmed he knows Mr Conway but has refused to be drawn on the play's contents saying: "I am sure it is accurate."

But royal experts have poured cold water on the claims.

Penny Junor, who has just published an acclaimed biography of Prince Harry, said: "I've spoken to people around at the time and they all say that James Hewitt wasn't in the picture before 1986. Diana didn't hide Hewitt when the relationship began. She kept him in plain sight."

Respected royal author Margaret Holder said Hewitt was trying to raise his profile.

She said: "I think this will put him back in the spotlight and it tells producers of reality TV programmes, 'Hello, I'm here'.

"It's a nonsense but it's all a game." Biographer Hugo Vickers said: "If you talk to certain people you will get a version of events these people are keen to peddle. They have an agenda of their own."

The play, which opens at London's Charing Cross Theatre on January 9, follows a journalist trying to uncover the truth about Diana's death.

Drunken birds slur their 'words' too - according to researchers who gave finches booze-spiked juice

Study finds that zebra finches sing differently after being given spiked juice

If you thought that scientists were too dull and responsible to ever get birds drunk in order to see what they sound like, you’d be wrong.

Christopher Olson recently did that very thing, focusing on getting zebra finches boozed up and analysing their singing.

Speaking to All Things Considered, he said: “We just showed up in the morning and mixed a little bit of juice with 6 percent alcohol, and put it in their water bottles and put it in the cages.”

So far, so normal… in the name of science, obviously.

Olson added: “At first we were thinking that they wouldn't drink on their own because, you know, a lot of animals just won't touch the stuff. But they seem to tolerate it pretty well and be somewhat willing to consume it.”

Although the finches only achieved low blood-alcohol levels of .05 to .08 percent, it was enough to intoxicate them, and it seems that, like humans, their voices are affected when drunk.

The scientists found that the birds' song became quieter and slightly slurred once they had polished off the spiked juice.

It is unknown whether they also put their wings around each other and claimed undying friendship, followed by an unpredicted mood change and the offer of a fight.

Virgin Atlantic VS43: Watch terrifying footage from inside plane as it makes emergency landing at Gatwick

This video shows the tension inside the aircraft - which had been en route to Las Vegas - after it turned back to the West Sussex airport after taking off this morning

This footage shows the inside of a Virgin Atlantic passenger jet as it was forced to make an emergency landing at Gatwick airport after developing a problem with its landing gear.

Flight VS43, which was en route to Las Vegas, turned back to the West Sussex airport after taking off this morning and made a "non-standard landing procedure".

The aircraft circled repeatedly between Gatwick and the South Coast apparently to burn off fuel.

The pilot can be heard telling the passengers to maintain the 'brace position' to protect themselves.

The footage then switches to a view of the aircraft on the tarmac after it touches down.

According to eyewitnesses, one of the five landing gears on the Boeing 747 jumbo jet had failed to deploy.

Fire and rescue crews were put on standby at the airport.

Virgin said: "Virgin Atlantic can confirm that flight VS43 on December 29, travelling to McCarran International Airport Las Vegas, returned to Gatwick due to a technical issue with one of the landing gears."

A Gatwick Airport spokesman said: "We can confirm that Virgin Atlantic flight VS043 which departed Gatwick Airport at around 11.45am is returning to Gatwick after the aircraft developed a technical fault."

A graphic anti-smoking advert has been released, showing a father lighting a hand-rolled cigarette full of rotting flesh.

Public Health England will launch its latest shock campaign alongside an expert review of how smoking affects the body’s major systems.

The report highlights some lesser-known consequences of smoking, including a 59% increased chance of developing Alzheimer’s disease, a 40% increase in the risk of hip fractures among men and a heightened risk of tooth loss.

Chief medical officer Professor Dame Sally Davies said: “While many smokers know the damage cigarettes do to their hearts and lungs, they are much less likely to be aware of how harmful smoking is to the body – essentially ‘rotting’ it from the inside out.

        "Roll-ups are no exception.”

Does this 90-year-old photo show the world's first 'selfie stick'?

This picture might show a gadget to perfect those self-taken pictures almost a century before the TOWIE stars got their hands on them

        Alan Cleaver Alan Cleaver

The 'selfie stick' is being hailed as the must-have stocking filler for selfie-obsessed smartphone users this Christmas.

And the gadget's come in use for TOWIE hunk Dan Osborne and his abs recently - but could people have been using them for nearly a century?

This picture, taken in Rugby, Warwickshire, in 1925, shows Arnold and Helen Hogg taking a picture of themselves just after they got married with the help of, yes, a long pole.

You could maybe even call it a stick.

And not unlike Essex abmeister Dan, Arnold made the schoolboy error of including the stick in the shot - preserving the evidence for his grandson Alan Cleaver to discover.

He told the BBC: 'It's always been a favourite photo of the family,' adding that his granddad was a renowned entertainer and musician, he said, 'He'd have loved the attention the photo is getting now, more than 100 years after his birth, because he was that sort of guy - very off the wall, very entertaining'.

Alan, a freelance journalist, added: "It's wonderful that the rest of the world is delighting in the humour of this situation."

Amateur box cameras of the era would not have been able to take an in-focus self-photo when held at arms length, so photographers would have had to use a remote shutter device like a cable, or build their own gadget - as Arnold Hogg apparently did.
