TAYLOR Swift has achieved the fastest-selling album of 2014 in under four days.

Swift’s album 1989 sold an impressive 43,428 copies in Australia since last Monday.

It beats the first-week sales of Coldplay’s Ghost Stories, which had seven days to sell 34,097 copies earlier this year.

ARIA charts are compiled on a Thursday night. Swift’s album was released on 3pm Monday afternoon, not the usual Friday morning, in line with the global release date of October 27.

Swift nearly tripled the sales of this week’s No. 2 album by Human Nature.

Their 17,934 copies of covers album Jukebox would be enough for a No. 1 any other week.

Swift’s wild popularity also saw nine tracks from 1989 place in the singles chart this week — as well as hits Shake It Off, Out of the Woods and Welcome to New York fans downloaded next single Blank Space (No. 57), Style (No. 62), Bad Blood (No. 76), Wonderland (No. 84), Widest Dreams (No. 92) and All You Had to Do Was Stay at No. 99.

These single track sales were on top of Swift’s full album sales.

Tellingly, Swift sold more digital copies of 1989 than physical, with eager fans wanting the album immediately. 1989 sold 25,737 downloads to 17,691 physical albums.

The album hit stores on Monday afternoon in line with its digital release.

1989 is available in standard and deluxe formats — both are in the iTunes Top 10 today.

It is on track to be the biggest-selling album of the year globally after just a week of release.

It entered the UK chart at No. 1 today on 90,000 first week sales,

1989 is predicted to sell 1.3 million copies in the US this week, after selling 600,000 copies on its first day of release alone.

It will make Swift the first artist to have three albums sell over a million copies in their first-week.

Swift is still No. 1 on the iTunes album chart today, and will be a thorn in the side of a number of key releases this month all aiming for No.1.

Her next threat is Foo Fighters, whose album Sonic Highways is released next Monday, again in line with the international release date.

Pink Floyd, The Veronicas, Guy Sebastian, Nickelback and AC/DC and One Direction all have new albums out this month which could all be likely No. 1s in a crowded market.

Swift’s previous album, Red, sold over 200,000 copies in Australia.

1989 also beats Swift’s own record of first week sales, with Red selling 29,369 copies when released in October two years ago.

Swift’s fans are now eagerly awaiting news of an Australian tour.
