HOLLYWOOD star Anthony LaPaglia will return home next month to make a quirky film about Australian family life.
The Adelaide-born actor, famous for his long-running role on US missing-persons TV series Without A Trace, will play the role of a real estate agent whose journey of redemption is triggered by a call from his dead mother.
It will be the first film LaPaglia has made here since leaving Adelaide as a young man to chase an acting career in which he has specialised in gangster or law enforcement roles.
Directed by another expatriate, Matthew Saville, A Month of Sundays will also star Australian actor Justine Clarke — who filmed Look Both Ways in Adelaide in 2005 — actor and political satirist John Clarke, and Julia Blake.
Producers Madman confirmed LaPaglia will arrive around January 12 when principal photography begins.
The film, which will be part of next year’s Adelaide Film Festival, will be shot at Adelaide Studios and on location around the city.
Saville who directed the film Felony and episodes of the television miniseries The Slap, will write and direct.
LaPaglia, who is half Italian, is a part owner of the Sydney FC soccer club and is known to follow with interest Adelaide United.
The film is co-funded by Screen Australia, the SAFC and the Adelaide Film Festival.
It was originally scheduled to begin shooting in December but was delayed because of contractual matters.
LaPaglia was recently in Melbourne filming Holding the Man based on the real-life romance between playwright Timothy Conigrave and footballer John Caleo.
It also starred Guy Pearce, Ryan Corr and another ex-Adelaide star on the rise, Sarah Snook.
