After meeting with alleged victim Judith Huth, the LAPD said it would be looking into the claims
Police have opened an investigation into allegations that comedian Bill Cosby sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl 40 years ago.
Alleged victim Judith Huth met with detectives in Los Angeles yesterday, along with her lawyer Gloria Allred.
Following the meeting, an LAPD spokeswoman said that an investigation has been opened after "a possible victim of sexual assault met with detectives in the robbery homicide division."
The spokeswoman, Officer Jane Kim, declined to comment further.
It comes after Cosby's lawyer Martin Singer filed legal documents on Thursday claiming Ms Huth tried to extort money from the comedian before filing her own civil suit.
He called her lawsuit "meritless and unsupported".
Los Angeles Chief of Police Charlie Beck told reporters on Thursday that the department would investigate accusations against Cosby, even those that are outside the statute of limitations period, in part because it may assist in civil claims.
But as of Thursday, he said, no possible victims had come forward.
Huth, now 55, alleges that Cosby assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974 after having met him on a movie set.
Allred declined to comment on Ms Huth’s civil suit because it was filed by another attorney.
Ms Huth appeared with her at the press conference but did not comment.
Bill Cosby has been facing claims that he sexually assaulted at least 19 women, but denies all that claims.
