The young mum, who suffered from mental health problems, is understood to have been referred to social workers several times during her pregnancy

A young mum found dead with her newborn baby was scared her daughter would be taken away from her, it has been claimed.

Charlotte Bevan's body was found in the Avon Gorge on Wednesday, 24 hours after she walked out of St Michael's Hospital in Bristol with four-day-old Zaani Tiana.

The infant's body was found on Thursday.

Today it has emerged that Charlotte, who had a history of mental health problems, may have been concerned that she would not be allowed to keep her daughter.

She had been referred to social services three times during her pregnancy, and a source told The Sun that she feared her little girl would be taken into care.

They said: "Charlotte was closely monitored throughout her pregnancy and had three referrals from midwives throughout her pregnancy.

"But she was clearly distraught by the time she left the hospital."

The first-time mum is also said to have stopped taking medication prescribed to her so she could breastfeed her daughter.

CCTV cameras filmed Charlotte leaving the maternity unit where she had given birth last weekend, sometime after 8.30pm on Tuesday night.

"She did not have a coat and was wearing only slippers, while baby Zaani wrapped only in a blanket.

Charlotte's mother Rachel Fortune, 59, said following the deaths: “My beautiful daughter and granddaughter are now at peace.”
