Victoria's Secret slammed for "damaging" lingerie campaign: Suggests models have the 'perfect body'

The underwear line uses a picture of models in the bras and knickers with the huge slogan "The Perfect Body" above it - but many worry it sends the wrong message

Underwear giant Victoria's Secret has been slammed for its "damaging" new lingerie campaign, showing models in the skimpy two-pieces under the slogan 'The Perfect Body'.

Twitter users, celebrities and readers have hit out at the retailer, saying it is sending the wrong message to young girls likely to believe the words.

The ad shows Angels Behati Prinsloo, Lily Aldridge and Jasmine Tookes in the new underwear looking stunning, but it's the huge slogan which has sparked outrage.

Leeds University student Frances Black has started an online petition, urging Victoria's Secret to apologise for the "unhealthy and damaging message that their ‘Perfect Body’ campaign is sending out" - and it's already got more than 8,000 signatures.

It says: "We would like Victoria’s Secret to change the wording on their advertisements for their bra range Body, to something that does not promote unhealthy and unrealistic standards of beauty, as well as pledge to not use such harmful marketing in the future."

And celebrities have jumped onboard too, with Courtney Stodden posting a snap of the campaign photo with her own message on Instagram.

She wrote: "It's sad that 1 body type is being labeled as 'The Perfect Body'. There are so many different shades of perfection."

One Twitter user wrote: "Sorry Victoria's Secret but your new 'Perfect Body' ads are a complete fail."

Another added: "No body is perfect."

We have contacted Victoria's Secret for comment.
