THE ARIA awards have nearly doubled their ratings from last year’s event.
About 570,000 people watched the award show last night on Channel 10, with a peak of 602,000 tuning in for the red carpet arrivals.
It was helped along by appearances by A-listers One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer and Katy Perry.

While the figures aren’t incredible they reflect a night of low figures with the Big Brother grand final only scoring 737,000 viewers.

Meanwhile, Sia has tweeted a defence of herself after she was criticised for being a no show, despite winning four awards.
This year’s ARIA awards saw the event return to a main channel after being shunted to digital networks following the car crash 2010 event.
That year peaked at 634,000 viewers.
Since then the awards have changed networks and nights in an attempt to find more viewers to keep the event on TV.
Last year’s ARIA awards on Go! rated 337,000 viewers. Ratings were 304,000 in 2012 and 369,000 in 2011.

The ARIA award impact is being felt on the iTunes chart today.
Chet Faker missed out on Album of the Year to Sia however his Built on Glass is no.1 today while her 1000 Forms of Fear is no.10.
Winners Neil Finn and Paul Kelly are no.2, Sheppard are No.7 and Dan Sultan No.12. Faker’s first EP, Thinking in Textures is at no.18.
The biggest impact on the iTunes single chart is Hilltop Hoods’ Cosby Sweater at no.3.

Meanwhile, Sia has tweeted this morning she filmed four video acceptance speeches, however, only one was used on TV.
“I’m saddened to be getting shit for being a no-show,” she tweeted.
Sia then offered to give one of her ARIA awards away for proof of a good deed.

Sia used comedian Carrot Top, who has a low profile in Australia, to accept her Album of the Year award via video, wearing her trademark blonde bob wig.
Sia has recently withdrawn from public life, citing her desire not to be famous. When she performs live on TV she now faces the back of the set.
In a statement ARIA confirmed Sia had recorded other acceptance speeches.
“ARIA congratulates Sia on being the winner of 4 ARIA Awards. ARIA would have loved for Sia to attend and we invited her to perform at the event, but unfortunately she couldn’t make it. Of her two Award wins that were televised, the Album Of The Year video acceptance footage was shown on air and Sia’s friend, Katy Perry accepted Best Female Artist on her behalf.”
