THE burning ambition and bitter disappointments of Australia’s leading ladies of TV and film are the focus of a stunning new ad campaign, written and directed by Crisis star Rachael Taylor.
The short film — to mark 25 years of Sydney jeweller and arts patron Jan Logan — features Rectify beauty Adelaide Clemens, former Neighbours star Dichen Lachman, Shire girl-made-good Tahyna Tozzi and other female actors talking about the ups and downs of their LA lives.

Taylor, who made her breakthrough on US television in Grey’s Anatomy and the short-lived 666 Park Avenue, was an ambassador for the Jan Logan brand in her early career — a coveted campaign which has helped to raise the profiles of many local female stars including Damages’ Rose Byrne, The Great Gatsby’s Elizabeth Debicki and Wonderland’s Emma Lung.
Shot like a home movie, the TVC opens in bed with Perth-born actress Kate Beahan, who says of her Hollywood experience: “When you get here, there’s this sense of possibility. It feels kind of like when you first fall in love and you can’t sleep, can’t eat.”
Hanna Mangan Lawrence, who appeared opposite Bryan Brown and Sam Neill this year in ABC drama Old School appears in the shower and picks up the narrative, saying: “and everything is going to end up happily ever after.”

Clemens, who has received rave reviews for her international TV roles in BBC drama Parade’s End and SBS import, Rectify, is filmed writing in a diary and swimming in an infinity pool as she talks about her acting ambition and describes herself “as the kind of girl who wanted to be Cinderella AND Batman. I wanted to play both.”
Newcomer Gemma Pranita shares the thrill of arriving in a city charged by those chasing the ultimate showbiz dream.
“Not too many people chase their dreams for real,” she says, “and this city is full of people doing that.”

Former David Jones model Tahyna Tozzi says “everything I know (about Hollywood) I’ve learning from the movies. It’s always blue skies, it’s always sunny, the days are new ...”.
Dollhouse star Dichen Lachman shares her frustration at how slow the production process is in Hollywood: “What’s strange is how little you make here ... you come here to create, tell stories, make a life, make a home and some of it just seems to fall into this massive vortex.”

Mad Max: Fury Road debutante Courtney Eaton captures the wide-eyed wonder of landing in LA and the daunting reminder of dreams dashed you can also find there.
“Going down Hollywood Boulevard kind of makes you a bit scared ... people walking around, you go ‘Gosh, what was their story? What did they come out here looking for?”
The Sunrise to Sunset Blvd sequence ends with Phoebe Tonkin being welcomed home into the arms of a man, as the voiceover reconfirms ‘Yeah, I’m still a dreamer.”
