ORGY domes, pregnancy revelations and buying unbelievably expensive sweaters ... the stars certainly didn’t hold back when they spoke to news.com.au at the GQ Men of the Year Awards in Sydney.
Celebrities such as Bad Neighbours star Dave Franco, Olympic legend Ian Thorpe, Offspring’s Asher Keddie and model twins the Stenmark brothers were all in attendance at the glitzy event held at the ivy.

For such a formal event the stars were surprisingly candid when we caught up with them on the GQ carpet. Here are our favourite lines:

Dave Franco on the most romantic thing he’s ever done for a woman:
In high school for this girl’s birthday I gave all of her teachers roses ahead of time which is hindsight was very embarrassing and creepy considering we’d only been together for a month. I got the teachers to give them to her in front of the class.
Dave Franco on who he’d turn for:
Jared Leto is a pretty dude. He’s beautiful.

Ian Thorpe on how his life has changed since he came out:
I’m no different, it’s just that the context of how honest I’ve been with people has changed. I’ve laid myself bare for people to respond to that and the response has been amazing. But there’s a really strange thing that happens when you’re a gay person coming out, where you feel as though it’s a bigger deal than it really is. In speaking to people this is what everyone thinks and I felt the same way. It’s not a big deal but it’s a big deal to you so it’s worthwhile going through the process but that’s your individual feeling about it and it’s wonderful once you’ve come through that and everyone really does support you.
Ian Thorpe on if there was any truth to rumours he was dating Ricky Martin:
It’s not true. I’m not seeing anyone. And we weren’t even friends when that came out. I’ve spoken to him a few times and that’s it. Great guy but we’ve never met.
Ian Thorpe’s style tip for men:
Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

Model and TV host Jason Dundas on getting naked at the Burning Man festival in the US:
There’s like an orgy dome but everybody’s naked and you just feel so liberated. On the last night I rode my bike … and I just took all of my clothes off and I just rode naked ... but it was dark and there was no-one around and then when a few people started noticing I put my clothes back on. But there was a moment when it was free willy.

International model Jarrod Scott (2013 GQ Man of Style) on the most he’s paid for a single item of clothing:
I’ll be honest. I do have a collection of sweaters and I ordered one without even knowing how much it was. I had to be on the waiting list. It was a Louis Vuitton one with a cat on it and I saw it in a picture and I went in and just said, ‘I want it!’ They only made about ten of them. I waited and they called me and I asked them how much it was and they said it was 2,700 euros ($3,899 AUD) and so I did it. I’ve only worn it four times I think.

Asher Keddie on how being pregnant in real life is different to being pregnant on Offspring:
I can’t take this one off at the end of the day but I don’t want to. We’re thrilled. We’re really excited and can’t wait.
Asher Keddie on what’s next for her career:
We’re just so focused on this (pregnancy) at the moment that I don’t know what the future holds for me other than what we’re doing at the moment and celebrating it.
Portrait artist Vincent Fantauzzo (who is married to Asher Keddie) on what music he plays in the background when he paints:
If I’m painting a portrait of someone I normally listen to the music they listen to so it’s a big variety. Or I’ll listen to an audio book they like.

The Stenmark twins on if they ever regret turning their backs on promising AFL careers to take up modelling:
Sometimes I look at the football field and go, ‘Wow, I wish I was playing football,’ but at the same time I look at what those athletes go through and they take some big hits and I think, ‘I kind of enjoy not being injured.’
Nova hosts Fitzy and Wippa. Source: News Corp Australia
Nova FM hosts Fitzy and Wippa on the manliest things they’ve done:
Wippa: I drive a ute, a Ford Ranger, so on a day-to-day basis I’m a man. You know what I did the other day? I dropped off a hay bale out of the ute and then I picked up a slab on the way home and put it in the tray. Beat that!
Fitzy: Did you really?
Wippa: No but if I had have it would have been hot.
Fitzy: I skolled a beer in front of Brian Johnson, the lead singer of ACDC while we were in a lift together. I didn’t need to … I just wanted to prove I was a man.
