High definition footage of Jeremy Clarkson running for his life from a baying Argentinian mob will be shown on Top Gear at Christmas.

It will be the first screening of film showing Clarkson, 54, James May, 51, and Richard Hammond, 44, fleeing from missiles and death threats.

A Top Gear source said the film was “shocking, scary and graphic”. He added: “It will show Jeremy, James and Richard were innocent.”

BBC insiders said director of TV Danny Cohen’s go-ahead for the screening proved Clarkson was off the hook over the affair.

Cohen has also refused to apologise to Argentina and said the number plate was not a deliberate reference to the 1982 Falklands conflict.
