Daniel Reade, 24, bit off a section of Steven Shovelton's ear and then escaped in a taxi with the lobe as "a souvenir"
A "sick" robber who bit off part of a man's ear before putting it into his MOUTH to celebrate was today jailed for 11 years.
Daniel Reade ripped off Steven Shovelton's ear with his teeth, escaping in a taxi where he laughed and boasted about his crime, waving the ear around and pretending to listen through it.
The 24-year-old the disgusted cabbie that he was going to keep it as "a souvenir," Liverpool Crown Court was told.
Reade thought Mr Shovelton had been in a scuffle with his youngster brother Adam, and so pushed him against a fence in Leigh, Greater Manchester, and bit a section of his ear off.
One year after that assault, in July 2013, both siblings went on a reign of terror, storming into four shops during one evening to demand cash.
The Reades pressured a vulnerable man to act as their getaway driver, stopping at four shops in Wigan, Westhoughton, Bolton and Atherton.
In one raid, the brothers, from Leigh, wielded knives at a Premier Express store where brothers Wajid Ali and Mohammed Qasim bravely tackled them, using a fridge shelf and a cricket bat.
Adam Reade, 22, who admitted the robbery conspiracy, was jailed for five years while Daniel Reade pleaded guilty to the conspiracy and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
Judge Stephen Everett told the elder Reade about his ear attack: "You treated this particularly awful offence with some sort of exultant approach.
"You in drink delighted in what you did, you boasted about it.
"It is difficult to understand what must have been going through somebody's mind to behave in such a disgusting and sickening way.
"What you did in a matter of seconds will have a real long term affect on him.
"Your behaviour after plumbed the depths of depravity."
