IT’S the television show that was the background to everyone’s childhood.
But like the rest of us, Sesame Street is all grown up now and is celebrating its 45th birthday this week.
The show, starring a cast of Jim Henson Muppets, has scored a legion of young fans, rave reviews, and high ratings over the years.
By the show’s 40th anniversary in 2009, it was broadcast in more than 140 countries around the world; and by 2014, had won 159 Emmy Awards and eight Grammy Awards — more than any other children’s show.
It has also featured guest appearances from a swag of famous figures including Michelle Obama, Buzz Aldrin, Kofi Annan, Nina Simone, Katy Perry and Benedict Cumberbatch.
The kid in every one us still relates to our favourite Sesame Street character.
