This frightening footage shows exactly what you would see in the seconds before a great white shark attack.

The stunning film - taken from a remote camera towed by a boat – shows the world's largest predatory fish chasing the craft before suddenly launching a toothy attack on the technology.

The yawning mouth and razor-sharp teeth leave a crack in the lens from the slightest of swipes – hinting at just how easily the awesome sea beast can rip apart its prey.

The jaw-dropping underwater film, which also features dolphins and seals, was captured by Charles Maxwell, a 68-year-old cameraman and diver who lives in Cape Town, South Africa.
