This is the moment a top politician had a near-miss when he was struck by a heavy chunk of ice.

Serbian energy minister Aleksandar Antic escaped serious injury on Thursday only because of his protective red helmet.

The force of the surprise icy blow knocked Antic's helmet off and knocked him into the arms of another man.

He was uninjured - although the story might have been less positive if the same ice had hit any of the colleagues standing without helmets around him.

Antic later tweeted a picture of his broken red helmet with the message: "Thanks to everyone who cared."

The minister was touring an eastern area of Serbia, hit by a recent cold snap, when the block of ice fell from an overhead power line.

Power was restored to some 5,000 people in the municipality of Majdanpek later in the day.
