Authorities continue to investigate her death in a bid to piece together what happened to Sacha Wheeler
The heartbroken family of a 14-year-old schoolgirl killed when she was struck by a train have said that their lives will never been the same again after her tragic death.
Sacha Wheeler was struck on her way home at the Glebe Way foot crossing in Whitstable, Kent, just before 6pm on Sunday, marking the fourth fatality to take place on the notorious crossing in recent years.
In a statement issued through the British Transport Police (BTP), Sacha's family said: "Tragically, our beautiful 14-year-old daughter, Sacha Wheeler, was struck and killed by a train on Sunday, February 8, at around 6pm, whilst on her way home, at Glebe pedestrian crossing in Whitstable, Kent.
"Our amazing daughter has been taken from us, our hearts are broken and our lives will never be the same again."
Sacha was a pupil at Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School in Canterbury where she was described as a "great asset".
A Network Rail spokesman said: "Foot crossings like Glebe Way are an anachronism - a legacy of the past - and we would like to remove or replace as many of them as possible.
"We are committed to working with our neighbours and crossing users in Whitstable to try to achieve this at Glebe Way.
"In the short term we have brought security to the crossing to reassure the public and crossing users."
BTP detectives have asked anyone who saw Sacha on the evening that she died to contact them.
She was slim, had long auburn hair, and was wearing a two-tone blue striped scarf, green Parka jacket, blue jeans and blue Nike trainers.
Detective Constable Paula Eustace said: "I would like to hear from anyone who might have seen Sacha in the minutes before her death.
"It could be the smallest piece of information, but it might help me piece together what happened."
