Olivia Munn: "Punky Brewster Inspired Me to Be an Actress"

Dec 21, 2014

More than just a pretty face!

Olivia Munn's entrance into Hollywood was born out of inspiration from a familiar '80s TV character — and at the time, she didn't even know it. "I've always wanted to be an actress since I was a little girl, since I was watching Punky Brewster," she tells Us Weekly. "When I found out she was an actress, that's what I wanted to do."

And with nothing more than hope and a handy guide to launching an acting career, Munn, 34, set out on a long journey to make her dreams come true. "I packed up and drove myself out from Oklahoma to California," she said. "I had one book — it was called An Actor's Guide to Moving to Hollywood."

After finding her place on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart show as a correspondent in 2010, and later conquering TV and film, The Newsroom actress embarked on a new endeavor: being an author, releasing Suck It, Wonder Woman!

"I wanted to write a collection of short stories about my life," Munn, who's dated quarterback Aaron Rogers since May 2014 explained. "I wrote it in a way that if my 13-year-old self could write a letter to me now, and I correspond back to her."

Although she is known for her striking beauty, Munn considers herself a member of the geek squad. "I moved around a lot as a kid and I was always the new girl,” she told Us. “The people who always had a place for me to sit at lunch were the geeks.” She adds, "The interesting thing about the term "geek" is that before it used to mean social anxiety on the outside, but geeks run the world right now."
