Police have started a murder inquiry following the death of a 15-year-old who died in hospital after suffering wounds to his stomach in East London
A murder investigation has been launched after a teenage boy was stabbed to death on an east London street.
The 15-year-old boy was walking with friends down Bethnal Green Road, Tower Hamlets, when he was attacked at just after 11pm last night.
He was left with serious stab wounds to his stomach and was taken to an east London hospital in a critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 2.12am this morning.
Police have informed the next of kin. A postmortem examination is expected to be carried out.
An 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to an east London police station for questioning, and is in custody.
Police believe the victim was part of a group of youths who were seen arguing with the occupants of a car in Padbury Court, just before the attack. The altercation carried on to nearby Gibraltar Walk.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Jones, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "Anyone who may have witnessed this altercation or have information which may assist the investigation is asked to contact the police as soon as possible."
