HE’S the American rapper famous for using the vocal pitch correcting auto-tune, but hearing T-Pain sing without the effect is mind-blowing.
The 30-year-old performer was a special guest at NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts series and a video of his three-song set has received 1.1 million views in just two days.

His session included soulful, paired back renditions of his hits Buy You a Drank (Shawty Snappin’), Up Down (Do This All Day) and Drankin’ Patna.

In an interview set to air on the radio network’s show All Things Considered, T-Pain explains that the public perception of his use of auto-tune is wrong.
“People felt like I was using it to sound good,” he told the program. “But I was just using it to sound different.”

Despite that, he admitted to being nervous about the gig given he has rarely not performed without auto-tune.
“I’ve got it right here, surgically inserted,” he joked.
