HIV-positive store thief tries to infect store assistant with scratch to avoid arrest

A HIV-positive shoplifter tried to escape from a store by scratching an assistant in an attempt to infect him.

Diamond Lawrence told the worker outside the Wal-Mart in Texas: "I can infect whomever I please."

The 25-year-old then hit him on the neck and scratched him. Afterwards, she told him: "You're welcome."

Lawrence has stolen a stack of frozen dinners worth $11 but was stopped by an employee outside the Dallas store who asked her to return inside.

Doctors said the shopworker had not been infected with the virus as there was no exchange of bodily fluids.

Lawrence was not prosecuted over the attempted theft as the chain does not take action over a small amount of goods.

But Lawrence was arrested over outstanding warrants for public intoxication and having an invalid driver's licence. She was held in Dallas County Jail.
