The hitmaker fights back tears as she admits she never acted on the sad thoughts she experienced
After her marriage to comedian Russell Brand broke down in December 2011, Katy Perry found herself in a 'darker place' emotionally.
The Firework singer said she never acted on the thoughts she had while speaking about her depression during an interview on The Project with host Rove McManus on Monday.
Ahead of her Prismatic concert at the Perth Arena , the 30-year-old said: "It was sad and there were thoughts, but there were never actions, thankfully."
The beauty went onto to talk about her song By The Grace Of God which details her suicidal thoughts, adding: '[it] is the first song that I wrote coming to make this record, when I was in a different place, I was in a darker place.'
When asked if she ever thought like she couldn't go on, Katy commented: 'Sometimes you can be blinded by your extreme emotion'.
The track received a lot of attention when Prism was first released last year.
Speaking to Billboard magazine she explained: "That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point. I asked myself, ‘Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?’ All the songs are real-life moments."
Katy continued: "I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music.
"I tell my fans if they want to know the real truth about stuff, just listen to the songs."
