ROBIN Williams’ suicide may have been triggered by a devastating form of dementia that can cause hallucinations and delusions.

According to documents obtained by TMZ, Williams was struggling with Lewy Body Dementia – a common condition associated with Parkinson’s disease – which is marked by abnormal protein deposits in the brain that disrupt normal function.

People affected by both Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia often experience severe side effects from Parkinson’s medication, the gossip site reports, including vivid visions of phantom objects, people or animals.

Sources told TMZ Lewy Body Dementia was a “key factor” in the actor’s shock death on August 11.

The death was officially ruled a suicide last week, as it was revealed Williams was suffering insomnia and anxiety associated with Parkinson's.
