The former Loose Women star has been fighting breast cancer but was finally well enough for a trip to Manchester with fiance Mark Cassidy
Looking fit and healthy, Carol McGiffin can’t stop smiling as she wanders arm-in-arm with fiancé Mark Cassidy.
The former Loose Women star has been fighting breast cancer but was finally well enough for a trip to visit her future in-laws in Manchester.
The upbeat Sunday People columnist showed no signs of the harrowing year of treatment she has endured as she hit the shops with TV production accountant Mark, 33, after lunch with his family last week.
Carol, 55, revealed in the Sunday People three weeks ago that she had found a lump in her left breast last February and was diagnosed with a grade three tumour in April.
Mark, her fiancé since 2008, has supported her through a mastectomy, six rounds of chemotherapy and 15 sessions of radiotherapy – all while keeping her condition a secret.
Until last month only family and close friends, including fellow ex-Loose Women Denise Welch, 56, and Lisa Maxwell, 51, knew of Carol’s illness.
But she looked radiant as she strode out in a woolly hat, sheepskin coat, animal print scarf and brown boots.
The TV favourite, who was married to DJ Chris Evans for seven years in the 90s, credits Mark for being her rock, especially during gruelling chemo, when she lost her blonde hair and then was admitted to hospital for six days after her blood count fell dangerously low.
Carol has always said she doesn’t want people feeling sorry for her and now hopes to get back to normal life with Mark.
She said: “The cancer has not fazed Mark. He is very matter of fact. He has been unbelievable. I’ve got a right good ’un.”
He looks pretty proud of you too, Carol.
