AUSSIE actress Naomi Watts says she starves herself before awards shows.
The Birdman star made the admission during an odd interview with E!’s Ryan Seacrest on the Oscars red carpet yesterday.
“I’m hungry on days like today because you usually have starved yourself,” she said.
Seacrest used his red carpet interview with Watts to ask what ingredients she used to make a frittata she posted about on social media.
The question angered fans who thought the actress, who got her break on Home and Away almost 25 years ago, may have had more to say on the industry’s biggest night of the year.

“Seacrest asked [12 Years A Slave actor] Chiwetel Ejiofor how life changed since last year then asked Naomi Watts about her breakfast frittata #AskHerMore #ERedCarpet,” @Danny Manus said on Twitter.
“So many things Seacrest could have asked Watts about, and it comes down to frittatas and dresses. #Oscars #AskHerMore,” said Ben Mortimer.
The #AskHerMore movement, which encourages red carpet reporters to ask actresses more meaningful, intelligent questions, has been trending on social media throughout the 2015 awards season.
It asks journalists to focus on their interview subject’s career achievements, not just their looks.
The Oscars were seen as the first big test of the movement, which gained momentum at the SAG Awards in January when Jennifer Aniston, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon refused to put their hands in the ‘mani cam’ — a camera which gives fashion lovers a close up view of jewellery and nail looks.

E!’s ‘mani cam’ was noticeably absent from the Oscars red carpet — as was the ‘clutch cam’ that appeared on the Grammys red carpet.
“That camera will not be included in Sunday’s coverage and was actually never planned to be part of our coverage for the Oscars due to the limited space we have on that specific carpet,” an E! News spokesperson told The Washington Post.
“Because of these space restrictions, the decision was made prior to awards season to not have the mani cam, the clutch cam or the 360 glam cam on the carpet.”
Gender rights were a strong theme throughout yesterday’s Oscars.
Prior to the show, Reese Witherspoon posted about #AskHerMore on Instagram:

And during a red carpet interview, Witherspoon told ABC’s Robin Roberts: “This is a movement to say we’re more than just our dresses. There are 44 nominees this year that are women and we are so happy to be here and talk about the work that we’ve done. It’s hard being a woman in Hollywood, or any industry.”
Boyhood’s Patricia Arquette received an enthusiastic response during her acceptance speech for the Best Supporting Actress award, when she drew attention to the gender pay gap.
“It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all, and equal rights for women in the United States of America,” she said.
