No, they didn't have smart phones back in the 1920s, but we're so excited to see Clooney at Downton we're prepared to let it slide
Now that's one selfie we weren't expecting to see.
In fact, the more we look at it, the more it messes with our heads.
What's Head Housekeeper Mrs Hughes doing with a mobile phone? The mind boggles.
But more importantly, the fun snap gives us a sneak peek into the world of Downton Abbey as it will be tonight - with added George Clooney.
The Hollywood star is set to make his Downton debut in a special Text Santa episode of the period drama, aired on ITV at 8pm.
Looking smart in his sleek grey suit and his coiffed hair, George poses as Mrs Hughes, played by Phyllis Logan, holds out the camera at arm's length.
Other cast members, including Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Jim Carter (Carson), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) and Allen Leech (Tom Branson) also squeeze in for the shot, in a candid snap that might almost beat THAT Oscars selfie.
Lady Rose, Molesley and Thomas Barrow can also been seen in the background.
Fans were delighted when it was revealed that the silver fox would be featuring in a special sketch for the show, but some were left confused after Lady Grantham refers to him as "dearest" in a clip that leads viewers to believe that she is talking to her husband, Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville).
She says: "Dearest, Lord and Lady Carlisle have asked us over for dinner tonight," before the Hollywood hunk turns to face her, looking a little confused.
Clooney, 53, who recently married top lawyer Amal Alamuddin, is said to be friends with Lord Crawley actor Bonneville after they worked together on The Monuments Men.
Laura Carmichael, who plays Lady Edith Crawley on the hit ITV show, admitted George's appearance was such a secret that the cast "didn't know if it would actually happen" until he arrived on set.
She said: "It was amazing. We didn't know if it would actually happen until he turned up.
"We were filming and then heard, 'He's here! He's here! He's arrived!"
We can't wait.
