The Imitation Game star is up against Eddie Redmayne but he's staying positive
Benedict Cumberbatch says he's "carrying sunshine" at the Oscars 2015.
The Imitation Game star is very positive, although he admitted it was a little crowded and "squishy" on the red carpet as he arrived at the ceremony.
He told reporters: "It was alright, a bit squishy on the red carpet. I'm carrying sunshine everywhere I go."
The star is nominated for the best actor prize for his role as Enigma code-cracker Alan Turing and he praised the computer pioneer before the event.
"To be here is a fantastic honour," he added. "This man was a hero of his time. The film is icing on the cake. This is just a fun party at the end of it all."
Eddie Redmayne will be hoping to continue his impressive and successful award season so far with more recognition for his performance in The Theory of Everything, and even Benedict's parents have tipped him to win over their son.
The stars are gathered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for the annual ceremony, with the biggest names in Hollywood in attendance.
Meanwhile Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel leads the way with the most nominations.
Rita Ora already picked up a fan in Oprah Winfrey after her performance at Harvey Weinstein's pre-Oscars bash as she prepared for the huge event.
As well as the Fifty Shades of Grey star belting out Academy Award-nominated song Grateful from Beyond the Lights, fans will also be dazzled by performances form the likes of Adam Levine, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend and Anna Kendrick.
